Job summary

Google Research seeks a Research Scientist to advance Earth AI initiatives and fundamental computer science research. You will set up large-scale tests, deploy promising ideas, and publish findings while collaborating with internal teams and external partners.

Responsibilities include designing experiments, building architectures, and shaping long-term research strategy. You will contribute to the wider research community and help translate insights into scalable Google products.

Qualifications

• PhD in CS/ML/Stats/EE/Geo/Epidemiology or related quantitative field.
• At least 2 years leading a research agenda.
• Experience developing and deploying models with ML frameworks on HPC hardware.
• Evidence via publications in conferences, journals, or repositories.

Minimum qualifications

• PhD degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Geography, Epidemiology, or a related quantitative field.
• 2 years of experience leading a research agenda.
• Experience in developing and deploying models using the frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX) specifically on High Performance Computing hardware.
• One or more scientific publication submission(s) for conferences, journals, or public repositories (e.g., CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR).

Preferred qualifications

• 2 years of coding experience.
• 1 year of experience leading research efforts and influencing other researchers.
• Research experience in earth science, epidemiology, or public health.

Earth AI is a family of geospatial foundation models, datasets, and Gemini-powered agents for understanding and predicting planetary shifts. Our remote sensing and population architectures are licensed commercially, power features across company ecosystems, and are used by enterprises in health, advertising, and site planning. These tools help responders anticipate where an outbreak will spread next and identify lagging vaccination coverage.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $174000 - $252000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits
