Job summary

GE Vernova’s Advanced Research Center is seeking a Research Scientist to design, develop, and apply innovative AI technologies across energy-focused applications. You will collaborate with cross‑disciplinary researchers and external partners to push the boundaries of AI in energy, from theory to prototyping and deployment.

This role requires a PhD or MS with a strong AI background, experience with Python and AI frameworks, and a willingness to work on-site at the Niskayuna, NY office.

Qualifications

• PhD or MS with AI focus; 2+ years experience for MS path.

As a Research Scientist, you will design, develop, and apply innovative AI technologies, including machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, and foundation models, to tackle complex challenges in the energy sector. Your work will span the entire research spectrum, from fundamental theoretical and empirical investigations to prototyping and solution development. You will have the opportunity to work on diverse projects, including power generation, renewable energy, electric grids, robotics, and manufacturing, in collaboration with GE Vernova's business units and a broad network of Researchers across disciplines and domains. Additionally, you will contribute to cutting‑edge research programs with external partners in academia and government, driving the advancement of AI research at GE Vernova and pushing the boundaries of human scientific understanding globally.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related fields with a focus on Artificial Intelligence or MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related fields with a minimum of 2 years of work experience with a focus on Artificial Intelligence
• Demonstratedabilityto write Python code
• Familiarity with AI, ML, and GenAI packages and frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, HuggingFace, and more
• Deep expertise in one or more of: Large Language Models (LLM), Time‑series or Multi‑Modal Foundation Models, Scientific MachineLearning with Physics, Graph Neural Networks.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
• Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY

Desired Characteristics

• PhD focused on new advancements in Artificial Intelligence
• Experience in one or more of: Multi-Modal Foundation Models with image, tabular data, and text, Integrating Physics in MachineLearning, Graph Neural Networks for Energy Systems, and Integrating LLM with knowledge graphs.
• Experience in writing grant proposals and participating in the execution of grant-supported research; includes demonstrated successful communication with government agencies such as DoE, ARPA‑E, DoD, and DARPA
• Contribution to public domain codebases and/or significant GitHub portfolio to demonstrate mastery and impact.

Relocation Assistance Provided: Yes

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $89,300.00 and $148,700.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
