Job summary

The Ohio State University seeks a Research Scientist in the FAES department to conduct lab and field experiments, run molecular dynamics simulations, and manage data on chemical and biochemical effects in foods and related processes.

This role requires a Doctorate in chemistry or food science & technology and a strong ability to collaborate, publish results, and secure grant support while mentoring students and coordinating with lab personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct lab and field experiments, molecular dynamics simulations, and manage data related to chemical and biochemical effects of electric field and other advanced food, biological and environmental processes
  • Generate progress updates and final reports of various research projects studying chemical and biochemical effects of electric field and other advanced food, biological and environmental processes; write journal papers, publications, presentations at professional and outreach meetings; assist with proposal writing and the other administrative work
  • Serve as Principal Investigator and develop, submit, and manage grant project to support their salary and others on the research team
  • Assist with daily and long‑term management of projects in conjunction with supervisor and lab personnel and Post‑Doctoral researchers
  • Serve as a supportive mentor for undergraduate and graduate students, post doctoral researchers, and collaborate with various levels of Laboratory personnel to manage the lab, including safety protocols
Minimum Education Required

Doctorate (Academic) with a Major in chemistry or food science & technology, and experience in chemistry, including molecular dynamics simulations.

Required Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate and participate in a team setting
  • Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge to conduct chemical, biochemical and engineering-related research on foods.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a postdoctoral position
  • Strong and proven background in molecular dynamics simulations
  • Experience working with novel preservation technologies such as ohmic heating and moderate electric field processing
  • Knowledge of enzyme inactivation kinetics desired
  • Experience designing experiments and analyzing data
