Job description

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s recently established Office of Large Grant Development (OLGD) is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Research Program Manager. The OLGD supports St. Jude investigators in identifying, preparing, and submitting multi-investigator or multi-institutional grant proposals. This role primarily involves pre-award proposal development and participating in outreach, education, and training initiatives.

Please note that all candidates must submit a cover letter to be considered for the position.

The Research Program Manager will play a pivotal role in developing and coordinating large, complex, multi-investigator grant submissions. Key responsibilities include identifying grant opportunities aligned with SJCRH strategic research areas, interpreting program guidelines, liaising with sponsors, managing proposal projects, and coordinating resources to develop competitive research proposals. The role also involves contributing to proposal budgets, drafting non-technical components, formatting documents, review, editing, one-voicing, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, fiscal, and programmatic requirements.

The ideal candidate will possess strong project management skills, the ability to collaborate closely with the OLGD Director, office team members, St. Jude faculty, as well as other St. Jude grant support offices to facilitate grant preparation and submission, focusing primarily on pre-award and grant submission processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate team science processes to develop competitive, large-scale, multidisciplinary proposals.
  • Coordinate internal stakeholder management, external vendor communication, and collaboration with partners inside and outside the institution.
  • Lead complex research proposal planning and submission, ensuring milestone and deadline compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including academic, government, and industry partners, to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Drive programmatic and resource initiatives to enhance faculty and staff engagement.
  • Maintain expertise in grant proposal development and sponsor requirements through continuous professional development.
  • Track and report on program and project success metrics.
  • Organize and facilitate team meetings, workshops, and reviews.
  • Interpret and apply organizational rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven expertise in conceptualizing, crafting, review and editing of research proposals.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Experience in identifying and securing external funding for biomedical research.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NIH and other federal funding mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with large, complex, multi-PI grants (e.g., P01, SPORE) is preferred.
  • Proven ability to develop training materials and provide guidance on grantsmanship.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in budget planning and administration.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of research, biomedical or clinical experience; Ph.D. preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of administrative experience in healthcare or academia, with a focus on grants and budget management.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in scientific discipline (e.g., assay development, translational research) including application of research methodologies and protocols, as well as overall research lifecycle.
  • Experience designing and managing research programs preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with NIH and NSF grant submission and administration.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
  • Some experience driving continuous program improvement projects preferred.

Join our team to make a meaningful impact by advancing groundbreaking research through successful grant development and collaboration.

This position is primarily onsite.
