Job description

At Reality Labs Research, our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences.We are looking for a skilled and proactive Research Designer to join our team, whose mission is to catalyze research through envisioning, understanding, and making the future of XR interaction tangible. You will have experience designing compelling interactions and experiences for AR/VR, can inform and help validate user value and technical requirements, and can work closely with a team of researchers creating technology to support the future of AR/VR. Your work will be used in technology demos, proof of concept prototypes, and user research studies. More broadly, you will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

Research Product Designer Responsibilities

Use a human-centered design approach to clarify broad technical requirements in support of delivering a desirable user experience

Design compelling interactions and experiences for AR/VR-driven by user scenarios and use cases

Contribute to strategic decisions, working with the Design, Research Science, and Executive teams

Design end-to-end flows and supporting visuals, and individually contribute to proof-of-concept demos and prototypes for research studies

Clearly articulate design decisions to a vast set of internal stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field

Degree in Design, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience

A portfolio featuring examples of interaction, 3D, motion, visual, and prototyping work

4+ years of experience with AR and VR

4+ years of experience designing in cross-functional environments

Communication and presentation experience

Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with Figma, Unity, or Adobe Creative Suite

Experience working within a technology research organization

Experience prototyping emerging technologies with physical computing, haptics, wearables, or machine learning techniques

Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative methods for user research

4+ years of interaction design experience in designing high quality user interfaces

$135,000/year to $194,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
