Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Health System is seeking a Research Nurse - Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. Join the Taussig Cancer Institute team conducting diverse oncology trials with advanced cancer care and clinical research innovations.

You will implement and oversee human subject research, ensure protocol adherence, and coordinate regulatory documentation while supporting patients and investigators. A hybrid work option may be available after six months.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA or Red Cross.
  • Two years of clinical experience.
  • Within 90 days of hire, complete Human Subjects Research certification as required by RCR guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with coordinating the implementation and conduct of research projects ensuring adherence to protocols.
  • Complete and communicate regulatory documents; develop data capture and monitoring plans; report Serious Adverse Events and complete FDA/sponsor forms.
  • Serve as a liaison between investigators, research personnel, outside study personnel and central research administration offices.
  • Utilize the nursing process as a basis for patient care.
  • Assess research subjects, perform nursing assessments, document findings, and notify physicians of abnormal findings.
  • Establish care plans with the subject, family, and research team; coordinate ongoing care.
  • Identify discharge needs and facilitate discharge planning.
  • Perform telephone triage, nursing procedures, and treatments.
  • Maintain standards of care per CCHS policies and procedures.
  • Assist with specialized patient care equipment as required by the protocol.
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered by a physician or LIP.
  • Direct, coordinate, and supervise nursing care for research subjects; delegate activities.
  • Conduct and document the informed consent process.
  • Complete certification in Human Subjects Research within 90 days or hire as required.

As a Research Nurse, you willassistwiththe implementation and conduct of human subject research projects, utilizingthe nursing process while ensuring adherence to research protocol requirements.Your day-to-day tasks may include thetimelycompletion and communication of regulatory documents, development of data capture andmonitoringplansandreporting of serious adverse events.This position offers a unique opportunity to leave a positive,lasting impressionon patients - from the moment they enter the facility to the time they return home.

A caregiver in this role works days from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

After six months, there may be an option for a hybrid schedule consisting of four onsite days and one offsite workday per week.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Assistwith coordinating the implementation and conduct of research projects ensuring adherence to research protocol requirements.

  • Complete and communicate regulatory documents, develop data,monitorplans, report Serious Adverse Events as the occur and complete FDA and sponsor forms.

  • Serve as a liaison between investigators, research personnel, outside study personnel and central research administration offices toassistin protocol interpretation,enrollmentand safety questions.

  • Utilize the nursing process as a basis for patient care.

  • Assess research subjects, complete nursing assessments, document findings in research subjectrecordsand notify the physician of abnormal findings.

  • Establish a care plan in collaboration with the research subject,familyand research team and coordinate ongoing care.

  • Identifydischarge needs andfacilitatedischarge planning asappropriate.

  • Perform telephone triage, nursingproceduresand treatments.

  • Evaluate,initiateand maintain standards of care consistent with CCHS policies & procedures.

  • Assistwith specialized patient care equipment as required by the clinical research protocol.

  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered by a physician or LIP.

  • Direct, coordinate andparticipatein the evaluation & supervision of nursing care provided to research subjects,establishingpatient care priorities and delegating nursing activities according to the patient needs and staff qualifications and capabilities.

  • Conduct and document the informed consent process.

  • Successfully complete certification in Human Subjects Research within90 daysor hire as required by the Responsible Conduct of Research Guidelines adopted by Cleveland Clinic.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross

  • Two years of clinical experience

  • Within 90 days of hire, successfully complete certification in Human Subjects Research as required by the Responsible Conduct of Research guidelines adopted by Cleveland Clinic

  • Any registered nurse or advanced practice nurse must obtain a cancer specific certification or demonstrate ongoing qualifying education within the timeframe of the facilities accreditation cycle, if they work in medical oncology, radiation oncology, cancer center or cancer clinic and/or administer chemotherapy within an accredited Cleveland Clinic facility.

  • Basic computer proficiency

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

  • Oncology and/or research experience

  • Med-surg or ICU background

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
