UTHealth Houston's Clinical Research Unit (CRU) seeks a Research Nurse to join a multidisciplinary team supporting investigator-initiated, federally funded, and industry-sponsored studies. You will provide protocol-specific nursing care, safety monitoring, and accurate documentation across multiple protocols.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
• 1 year of experience in research is required.
• Current state RN licensure and eligibility for licensure in Texas.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Clinical Research Unit (CRU), part of UTHealth Houston’s Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences, provides specialized nursing, laboratory, regulatory, fiscal management and operational support for clinical research studies across multiple therapeutic areas. The Research Nurse will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that supports investigator-initiated, federally funded, and industry-sponsored studies while promoting participant safety, regulatory compliance, and high-quality research. https://www.uth.edu/ccts/investigator-resources/cru

The Research Nurse will provide protocol-specific nursing care to research participants, including clinical assessments, vital signs, medication administration, IV placement, blood collection, specimen processing, and participant monitoring. The nurse will document study activities accurately and collaborate with investigators, research coordinators, and other clinical teams to ensure participant safety and protocol compliance.

Preferred skills:

Clinical research nursing experience; knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and research protocols; experience with phlebotomy, IV placement, medication administration, specimen collection and processing. Strong assessment, documentation, organization, communication, and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple studies and collaborate with investigators, coordinators, and multidisciplinary teams.

Position Summary:

The Research Nurse coordinates and conducts research projects and implements the nursing care functions. Recruits, screens, enrolls and follows up with participants throughout the course of the research. May be assigned multiple protocols.

Position Key Accountabilities:

• Recruits, screens & consents participants, and educates research participants regarding the overall research objectives and potential benefits and/or risks for participants, as necessary for research projects.
• Coordinates and administers the nursing care functions within a research project in accordance with research protocols and the daily administration and staff supervision of the project.
• Schedules follow-up visits and maintains contact with participants, participants' families, department staff, pharmaceutical company representatives, other faculty members.
• Distributes research information to faculty, research staff, principal investigator, and others as requested.
• Responsible for preparation of regulatory submission to IRB and applicable regulatory agencies as well as the day-to-day activities of enrolling in clinical studies including trials.
• Inputs data and maintains research databases and related records needed for research.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school required May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.

1 Year Of Experience In Research Required

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
