Job summary

Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), part of McKesson, seeks a Research Nurse to lead day-to-day research operations in oncology trials. You will mentor nurses, monitor enrollment, and ensure protocol compliance across study activities.

  • Blood cancer experience preferred.

Responsibilities

As the Research Nurse you are responsible for the day-to-day research nurse operations.

  • You will mentor, educate and train nurses.
  • You will problem-solve and triage clinical issues.
  • You will monitor patient enrollment.
  • You will identify opportunities and develop action plans as necessary to increase patient accrual.
  • You will meet regularly and as needed with physicians and Research Nurse Manager to assess performance.
  • You will support enrolling patients onto clinical trials through recruitment, screening and enrollment of eligible subjects according to protocol requirements.
  • You will ensure the protection of study patients by timely adherence to protocol requirements/compliance and use the protocol as the only tool to screen, treat and follow patients.
  • You will review the study design and inclusion and exclusion criteria with physician and patient.
  • Attend weekly study status teleconferences
  • You will document the informed consent process accurately and have all parties fully execute the document including the HIPAA Authorization. Completes screening and eligibility, inclusion/exclusion form s and standard enrollment forms.
  • You will ensure that patient documentation is completed at each clinic visit while in screening.
  • You will ensure that all medications are approved by the registrar prior to initiating treatment to when changing medication regimens, such as crossover studies.
  • You will ensure that follow-up appointments, scans, or any related procedures are scheduled correctly according to protocol requirements.
  • Accurately calculate and document the BSA, creatinine clearance, urine protein: creatinine ratio or any other conversions needed per protocol
  • Accurately completes and submits follow-up SAE report to the Safety Department within the timeframe allotted by the Regulatory Department.
  • Accurately complete all data and query requests and submit with source documentation within the timeframe specified by the study manager.
  • Document any interaction regarding the patient that occurs while the patient is enrolled on a protocol, including follow-up and survival (this includes home health intervention, pharmacies, study managers, physicians, and clinic colleagues).

You should have for this position:

  • An associate degree; preferably a bachelor’s degree
  • RN License
  • Knowledge of medical and research terminology
  • Knowledge of FDA Code of Federal Regulations and GCP
  • Knowledge of the clinical research processes
  • At least three years of oncology experience, five year are preferred
  • Blood Cancer experience is preferred
  • At least one year of experience in a research setting preferred
  • Research Certification (ACRP or CCRP) Preferred
