Job summary

FMI – The Food Industry Association is seeking a Research & Insights Manager in Arlington, VA. You will lead research initiatives, analyze industry data, and translate findings into strategic resources for FMI staff, members, and stakeholders.

You will collaborate with leadership, manage budgets, and oversee communications such as reports, webinars, and infographics while supporting cross‑functional teams and external vendors.

Qualifications

  • College degree in business, economics, psychology, or sociology (preferred).
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and data tabulation.
  • Strong writing skills with proofreading and copyediting.
  • Excellent project and time management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage FMI research projects, programs, and campaigns with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage survey instruments and oversee data collection.
  • Analyze survey and secondary data to develop reports and actionable insights.
  • Prepare, edit, and distribute research reports, presentations, webinars, and updates.
  • Support research communications through webinars, newsletters, infographics, and member outreach.
  • Manage research budgets, maintain databases, and report archives.
  • Provide project and administrative support.

FMI – The Food Industry Association: We’re Hiring a Research & Insights Manager

Are you passionate about managing research projects, uncovering industry trends, and delivering insights that help shape the future of the food industry? Do you thrive on coordinating complex projects, working with internal and external partners while turning research findings into meaningful resources? If so, this might be the role for you!

Quick Snapshot: In this role you’ll manage and support FMI’s research & insights initiatives by leading research projects, analyzing industry data, and delivering strategic, actionable insights. You’ll work closely with the Vice President, Research & Insights, and cross-functional teams to help ensure FMI delivers forward-thinking research and data-driven resources that address the evolving needs of the food industry.

What Work Can You Look Forward to Doing in This Role?
  • Manage FMI research projects, programs, and campaigns, including signature and co-branded research initiatives, while collaborating with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Develop and manage survey instruments and oversee data collection including survey programing and sample survey management.
  • Clean, tabulate, analyze, and interpret survey and secondary data (e.g., Circana, NIQ, etc.) to develop reports and actionable insights.
  • Prepare, edit, and distribute research reports, presentations, webinars, and updates for FMI staff, members, and industry stakeholders.
  • Support research communications through webinars, newsletters, infographics, and member outreach.
  • Manage research budgets, maintain research databases, and report archives.
  • Provide project and administrative support.
The Education and Skills That You’ll Need to be Successful:
  • College degree in business, economics, psychology, or sociology (preferred).
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in a similar role. Previous work in a Research department is a plus.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods, statistical applications, and data tabulation.
  • Strong analytical and interpretation skills.
  • Strong computer knowledge including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Survey Monkey, Qualtrics and SPSS (or other data processing software).
  • Experience utilizing database software to maintain information and records to maximize efficiency.
  • Strong writing skills with an emphasis on proofreading and copyediting.
  • Self-directed with excellent project and time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
