DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, the research associate will perform experiments using biological materials (e.g., primary cells, stem cells, cell lines, mammalian tissue samples), carry out laboratory maintenance, and analyze data using basic computer programs. Responsibilities include overseeing mouse colony breeding and utilization, performing mouse surgeries, preparing reagents/solutions, assisting with immunohistochemistry, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory procedures. The incumbent will plan, design, and analyze research projects, particularly in skin research, melanocyte and melanoma biology, and service projects. They will assist in developing and modifying research designs, contribute to manuscript writing, and handle IRB applications and progress reports for funding agencies like NIH. Additionally, the role involves training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, maintaining safety protocols, analyzing bioinformatics data, and contributing to experimental design for genome-wide studies. The associate will also train students in techniques such as 3D cultures, animal work, viral transductions, and tissue culture.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong theoretical knowledge of skin biology, cancer biology, immunology, and cell biology.
  • Experience with primary melanocyte techniques.
  • Experience with in vitro 3D skin tissue techniques.
  • Experience with protein expression and purification.
  • Knowledge of genetics, mouse physiology, reproduction, and biology.
  • Experience in scientific analysis and research design.
  • Experience performing small animal surgeries and sterile techniques.
  • Experience managing mouse colonies.
  • Data analysis skills using calculations and Excel.
  • Experience with PCR/QPCR.
  • Skills in accurate record keeping and data organization.
  • Experience with cell culture techniques.
  • Ability to train effectively in lab techniques.
  • Skills in metabolomics and RNA-Sequencing.
  • Ability to contribute independently to experimental design and analysis.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Subject to criminal background check.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Willingness to work with animals including rodents and rats.
  • Ability to work safely with biohazards materials.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $66,441 - $106,839 (pro-rated if less than 100%).

Hourly Range: $31.82 - $51.17.

Compensation factors include experience, skills, education, certifications, and organizational needs. The listed salary range reflects the budgeted pay scale, which may vary based on internal factors and agreements.
