Qualifications

  • Knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials and substances.
  • OSHA training and certification in animal care and use may be required by some departments.

Responsibilities

  • Confer with senior laboratory personnel regarding procedures and techniques to follow in conducting research and recommend modifications as needed.
  • Perform specialized tests and procedures using complex equipment.
  • Procure supplies and materials needed for laboratory research.
  • Conduct literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information for research.
  • Make statistical calculations, analyze data and prepare reports summarizing results.
  • May supervise the care of research animals; perform minor animal surgery or collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Orders supplies and experimental materials needed to conduct research.
