Job summary

The University of Utah in Salt Lake City seeks a researcher to perform advanced laboratory techniques and procedures in a research setting, with potential veterinary technical support for animal model studies.

You will assist the Principal Investigator in designing and implementing new protocols, review scientific literature, perform statistical calculations, analyze data and prepare reports summarizing results; you may supervise staff and help prepare budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in biology, chemistry or related science.
• Ability to perform advanced scientific techniques and procedures.
• Ability to make statistical calculations, analyze results and prepare reports.

Responsibilities

• Performs and/or directs standard and complex lab tests and experiments and/or surgical procedures for studies.
• Assists the Principal Investigator in designing and implementing new protocols and modifying techniques.
• Reviews scientific journals, abstracts and literature for information on experimental procedures.
• Makes advanced statistical calculations, analyzes data and prepares reports summarizing results.
• Operates complex and highly specialized laboratory and surgical instruments and instructs others in their use.
• Maintains a log of supplies used in procedures.
• May supervise, train and review the work of laboratory personnel.
• May prepare equipment and rooms for studies.
• May assist with preparing budgets.
