Job summary

The University of Missouri Metagenomics Center (MUMC) and MU Mutant Mouse Resource and Research Center (MMRRC) are seeking a Research Laboratory Technician. You will provide technical support for sample receipt, handling (BSL-2), DNA extraction and quantification, normalization, plating, and transport to MU Core facilities on the main campus.

Additionally, you will assist with data management, service quotes and invoices, and with animal necropsies and post-mortem sampling as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • BA/BS degree preferred for the position.
  • Familiarity with MS Office (Excel, Outlook) beneficial.
  • Experience with DNA extraction preferred and beneficial.
  • Attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills expected.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for MUMC and MMRRC, including receipt and inventory of samples (BSL-2).
  • Handle samples including nucleic acid extraction, quantification, normalization, and DNA plating.
  • Transport materials to MU Core facilities on MU campus; assist with data management.
  • Prepare and distribute service quotes and invoices; assist with animal necropsies and post-mortem sampling.
  • Support other procedures as needed.

Department of Pathobiology and Integrative Biomedical Sciences (PIBS) - College of Veterinary Medicine

Job Description

PIBS is hiring a Research Laboratory Technician in the University of Missouri Metagenomics Center (MUMC) and MU Mutant Mouse Resource and Research Center (MMRRC).

Duties and responsibilities: provide technical support for the MUMC and MU MMRRC including receipt and inventory of biological samples, including Biosafety Level-2 (BSL2) samples; sample handling including nucleic acid extraction and quantification, normalization and plating of DNA, and transport of material to and from MU Core facilities on the main MU campus; basic data management and distribution to clients; assistance with preparation and distribution of service quotes and invoices; and assistance with animal necropsies, post mortem sample collection, and other procedures as needed.

Shift

Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm

Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS), or comparable degree
  • familiarity with Microsoft Office software suite (e.g., Excel, Outlook)
  • strong attention-to-detail, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience with DNA extraction, and an understanding of basic finance is also preferred
Anticipated Hiring Range
  • Hiring Salary: $15.00 per hour
  • Grade: GGS 004
