Job summary

Mass General Brigham's The Brigham and Women's Hospital site seeks a research assistant for the ARCND - Nuber laboratory in Neurology. The role supports a wide range of advanced research activities, supervising technical elements and coordinating daily workflows to advance laboratory objectives.

Responsibilities include in vivo mouse studies, tissue analysis, and collaborative data interpretation. Requires a Bachelor's in a related field and strong communication skills; onsite work at 60 Fenwood

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and breeds commonly used transgenic and knockout mouse lines and performs genotyping.
  • Conducts in vivo experiments, including behavioral assays and basic mouse handling.
  • Performs euthanasia, brain extractions, and downstream molecular analyses (RNA, protein, Western blot, ELISA).
  • Assists with data collection, statistical analysis, and reporting under supervision.
  • Trains and onboards new laboratory personnel and coordinates daily experimental schedules.

Job Summary Summary

In the Department of Neurology, ARCND - Nuber laboratory, under the general direction of the supervisor, supports laboratory research. Carries out a broad range of technically advanced research activities and procedures; evaluates conclusions and has considerable latitude to modify or devise methods and techniques as necessary to achieve desired results; typically supervises technical and sometimes administrative elements of the research unit.

Essential Functions
  • With previous experience in working with laboratory animals:
  • Maintains and breeds commonly used transgenic and knockout mouse lines (uses Transnetyx or PCR for mouse genotyping)
  • Conducts in vivo experiments, including behavioral assays and routine mouse handling procedures (intraperitoneal and subcutaneous injections)
  • Performs euthanasia, brain extractions, and downstream molecular analyses such as RNA or protein extraction, Western blotting assays, ELISA
  • Perfuses mice for brain fixation, sectioned brain and performed histology
  • Supports basic cell culture activities as needed (preferred but not required)
  • Manages laboratory operations, including pipette calibration, chemical inventory updates, waste and drug disposal, and biosafety compliance for reagents and buffers and updates on the laboratory protocols
  • Trains and onboards new laboratory personnel in established experimental techniques and protocols
  • Coordinates daily experimental schedules to ensure efficient workflow and resource use
  • Manages data collection and analysis, including recording, tabulation, graph generation, and basic statistical analysis under supervision; regularly reported progress to the supervisor
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support laboratory research objectives
  • Executes protocols of non-routine experiments
  • Assists PI with determining the most suitable methodology
  • Performs basic design and modification of protocols
  • Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data
  • Prepares and presents reports
  • Organizes and summarizes acquired data using scientific and Statistical Techniques
  • Participates in the design of experiments or field work
  • All other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? Yes

Experience: Previous Research Lab Experience 1-2 years required

Enrolled in an undergraduate program

Completed college

Excellent oral communication skills required

Ability to take initiative and work both independently and team-oriented

Previous experience working in the laboratory and with rodents required

We are seeking stability for 2 years
