• Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.
• Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
• Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.
• Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
• Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs routine laboratory tests and procedures as directed, with supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs a variety of laboratory tests and procedures according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.

Collects data via laboratory experiments utilizing standard laboratory equipment, structured interviews, library research, data processing and/or other research techniques.

If applicable, after appropriate training, assists in surgery and the care of animals.

If applicable, after appropriate training and with supervision, uses radioactive, infectious, bio-hazardous, and/or toxic substances.

Records data according to project requirements.

If applicable, after appropriate training, assist with surgical procedures, as necessary.

Processes acquired data and assists in its summarization using standard scientific techniques including computer programs.

Makes periodic reports of project status to supervisor.

Assists in care and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and work area. Alerts supervisor to equipment and supply needs.

Performs clerical duties incidental to research tasks as required.

Attends meetings as required.

Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars, and/or conferences.

Performs other laboratory related functions as required or directed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• 1. Work requires a bachelors' degree, or equivalent combination or education and experience. Requires intermediate math skills and ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; .deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; and speak effectively before groups of employees.

Potential Exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens. Job may require performance of tasks that involve potential for exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less and depth perception. Work requires some lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
