Job summary

The Edwards Lab at the University of Michigan, in the Department of Cell & Developmental Biology (CDB), is seeking a Senior Research Lab Specialist to independently design experiments, direct data generation and analysis, and contribute to manuscript drafts under the PI, Dr. Nicole Edwards.

Our group uses Xenopus, mouse, and pluripotent stem cells to study trachea and esophagus development and disease genetics. We value teamwork, intellectual growth, and leadership.

Qualifications

• PhD in genetics, cell biology, developmental biology, or related field, with 5+ years postdoc or equivalent.
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Molecular biology expertise and familiarity with imaging microscopy techniques.
• Experience supervising others in a research lab.

Job Summary

A Research Lab Specialist Senior position is available in the Edwards Lab at the University of Michigan in the Department of Cell & Developmental Biology (CDB). We use a combination of developmental biology models including Xenopus (frog), mouse, and pluripotent stem cells, gene editing, and microscopy techniques to investigate the disease genetics and developmental biology of the trachea (windpipe) and esophagus (food pipe). Our group values teamwork, community, and intellectual growth. We are seeking a senior staff scientist to independently design experiments related to the lab's ongoing research projects, direct data generation and analysis, bring new expertise and experience to the lab, and provide leadership to other lab members. The Lab Specialist Senior will work in consultation with the PI, Dr. Nicole Edwards, in a collaborative learning environment.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in genetics, cell biology, developmental biology, or related field, and 5+ years experience working as a postdoctoral fellow or related position
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills contributing to a strong team environment
• Molecular biology expertise and familiarity with imaging microscopy techniques
• Experience with supervising others in a research lab setting

Desired Qualifications

• Background knowledge and expertise in developmental biology research
• Previous experience working with animal and/or cell-based experimental models
