Job summary

XCEL Engineering, Inc. seeks a Linux and Windows Systems Engineer to design, install, configure, and maintain systems for multiple research projects on site at the Oak Park facility.

The role focuses on embedded Linux support, storage, virtualization, networking, and Windows administration to support researchers and IT customers. You will work within the RDSE group to enable research while protecting assets, data, and discoveries.

Qualifications

• US citizen eligible for DOE security clearance.
• 3+ years Linux/Windows experience.
• VM administration experience.
• Understanding of Windows Domain infrastructure.
• Experience with backup software and administration.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot various Linux server related issues.
• Install, configure, and maintain various Linux server distros, including Red Hat.
• Install, configure, and maintain system software, including Apache, MySQL, PHP, Tomcat, JBoss; patch software for security.
• Work with other system engineers and vendors to resolve hardware and software issues; document procedures for startup, shutdown, backup, and recovery.
• Support virtualization platforms, including VMware clusters; assist project deployments as needed.
