Job Details

Title: Research Engineering/Scientist Associate IV
Department: Department of Neuroscience
Location: Austin, TX

Duration: Until June 30, 2027
Hours: 40 per week
FLSA Status: Exempt

Responsibilities
  • Support molecular biology and biochemistry projects, including designing and generating cDNA constructs and viral expression vectors.
  • Express and purify proteins from bacterial and mammalian cells; produce and test antibodies against ion channels and synaptic proteins.
  • Conduct transcriptomic analyses of gene expression.
  • Perform experiments involving immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy, and confocal microscopy in various tissue preparations.
  • Manage general lab duties: onboarding staff, ensuring compliance, overseeing animal colonies, handling IACUC and biosafety protocols, and purchasing/maintaining equipment.
  • Train lab personnel in mouse colony maintenance, cell culture, biochemistry, and molecular biology experiments.
  • Participate in lab meetings, seminars, conferences, grant writing, and manuscript preparation.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, or a related field.
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques and protein purification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Rodent handling experience.
  • Skills in confocal and/or electron microscopy.
  • Experience with adeno-associated virus design and antibody purification.
  • Bioinformatic analysis experience.
Salary

$62,000 per year.
