Job summary

A research laboratory in the United States is seeking part-time interns in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering. Responsibilities include research and programming tasks in a collaborative environment. Candidates should be completing their sophomore year and possess strong communication skills, as well as interest and moderate skills in software and hardware areas. This position will be onsite in either State College, PA or Reston, VA, and requires obtaining a security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Interest in Software Development & Design, Digital Logic & Embedded Programming, Signal Processing, RF Hardware & Phenomenology, Communications.
  • Moderate skill level in Python, MATLAB, C, C++, or LabVIEW.

Job description

We are seeking Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Computer Engineering students for an internship in the Strategic Systems Operations Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. The position is part‑time and will be onsite at either State College, PA or Reston, VA.

Responsibilities
  • Research, summarize, and present information to internal—and potentially external—reviewers.
  • Work as part of a team to design, program, integrate, and/or test hardware and software, algorithms, and systems. Specific duties will be assigned in accordance with your background.
  • Create a documentation package for your work.
  • Present your work to the division leadership team.
Qualifications
  • Completion of your sophomore year in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a comparable field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interest in one or more of the following topics: Software Development & Design, Digital Logic & Embedded Programming, Signal Processing, Radio Frequency (RF) Hardware & Phenomenology, Communications.
  • Moderate skill level in Python, MATLAB, C, C++, or LabVIEW.
Work Hours

Selected candidate may work up to 10 hours/week during the academic year and up to 40 hours/week during non‑academic time periods.
