Job summary

Google DeepMind is seeking a Research Engineer focused on Responsibility to design, prototype, and scale AI systems. You will work with Research Scientists to advance Responsible AI and present trade-offs to stakeholders.

You will join a specialized Applied Research and Responsibility team within Google, contributing to safety and ethics while publishing results and collaborating with academic partners worldwide.

Qualifications

• - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Math, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• - 8 years of experience in Python programming.
• - Experience with generative AI, generative AI agents, NLP, and LLMs.
• - Experience with Cloud AI/ML systems and tools (e.g., Kaggle, TensorFlow, PyTorch etc.).

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, scale engineering solutions, and run experiments to address emerging research priorities within the Responsibility portfolio.
• Work with Research Scientists to advance the state of the art in Responsible AI.
• Act as a technical anchor for the team, establishing best practices for code quality, scalability, and system design.
• Present complex engineering trade-offs and research results clearly to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
• Lead project teams and set technical direction.

Minimum qualifications:

• 8 years of experience in Python programming.
• Experience with generative AI, generative AI agents, natural language processing (NLP), and large language models (LLMs).
• Experience with Cloud AI/Machine learning systems and tools (e.g., Kaggle, TensorFlow, PyTorch etc.).

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or Math, or technically-oriented MBA degree.
• Experience with AI ethics, responsible development, trust and safety, or adversarial thinking.

US: $207000 - $300000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits
