Basis Research Institute in New York City seeks a Research Engineer in Operations to build productivity tools and automation that scale research workflows. You will create tools to save manual work, automate CRM and proposals, and provide analytics to guide strategic decisions as Basis grows.

Qualifications

• Possess excellent programming and software engineering skills, especially in Julia, Python, C++, ML-family languages.
• Demonstrated ability to drive software projects from start to finish.
• Able to digest research from venues like PLDI/POPL/NeurIPS/ICML and progress autonomously.
• Experience with LLM-powered automation, workflow orchestration, and agent-based systems.
• Proven ML engineering achievements, e.g., building distributed model training or end-to-end systems.

Responsibilities

• Build researcher productivity tools including experiment tracking and literature automation.
• Develop GTM and business operations automation: CRM, pipeline, proposals, contracts, client comms.
• Create analytics and measurement infrastructure for progress and resource use.
• Automate recruiting, marketing, and cross-functional workflows.
• Build internal APIs and integrations (Notion, Linear, email, calendars, Slack).
• Implement AI/LLM-powered tools with retrieval-augmented generation and agent orchestration.
• Translate research ideas into robust, scalable code and optimize performance.
• Contribute to Basis culture and focus on enabling high-leverage work.
