Job summary

HarbisonWalker International in the United States is seeking a materials engineer to conduct laboratory research, analyze samples, and issue project reviews and final reports on refractory materials.

The role includes evaluating new raw materials, planning material strategies, and preparing technical reports. You will maximize data collection, resolve process issues, and collaborate between the plant and research group at the ATRC pilot plant.

Qualifications

  • Requires a B.S. in Engineering or Materials Science.
  • Knowledge of development process, material science/chemistry, forming and firing processes, refractory materials, and refractory applications.
  • Requires motivation and ingenuity.
  • Requires at least 3 years experience in development or process engineering including ceramics, materials science, or related research.

Responsibilities

Conduct laboratory research. Analyze samples. Issue project reviews and final reports. Evaluate new raw materials. Determine best use of recycled and scrap materials. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Conduct research and development projects.
  • Plant and process assistance.
  • Plan and implement new or alternate raw material strategies.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations.
  • Maximize benefits of data collection, including production and QA data. Verify current data collection needs, collect new data as required, set up review processes to generate information needed to run processes, and verify data quality. Optimize data collection methods to minimize cost associated with collection, analysis, retention, and retrieval.
  • Resolve manufacturing process issues through experimental evaluations, including modifications to the processes and product formulas, under guidance of research.
  • Act as liaison between the plant and research group. Support efforts around work trials, troubleshooting, and modeling the plant process at the ATRC (R&D facility) pilot plant.
