Job summary
Gridware, a San Francisco-based tech company, seeks a hands-on Research Engineer with a strong electrical engineering foundation to join our R&D team and tackle sensing and measurement challenges with real-world impact.
You will blend physics, experimentation, and data analysis to understand grid sensor behavior, identify performance gaps, and develop enhanced sensing capabilities. This role emphasizes measurement and applied research over product design.
Qualifications
- MS in Electrical Engineering or PhD with relevant research/industry experience.
- Strong fundamentals in electromagnetics, sensing, and electrical measurement.
- Experience in data analysis and experimentation to solve sensing problems.
- Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for scientific data analysis.
- Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, DAQs).
Responsibilities
- Investigate sensor signals to understand physical phenomena and identify performance limitations.
- Help define measurement requirements and evaluate sensors for current and new capabilities.
- Design and run experiments to characterize sensor performance and validate approaches.
- Analyze experimental and fleet data using Python, MATLAB, SQL, or similar tools.
- Improve signal capture on edge devices via sampling, filtering, compression.
