Overview




The Space & Survivability Lab is seeking an enthusiastic Research Engineer to join our team on-site at SRI International's Menlo Park, California headquarters. The Researcher will have the opportunity to make important contributions to on-going and future R&D programs in electromagnetic modeling of antennas and advanced radar systems.

In this role you will:

    Perform full-wave electromagnetic simulations to evaluate and optimize antennas

  • Assist with fabrication and testing of antennas

  • Employ models to calculate radar cross section and evaluate radar system performance

  • Conduct business development and contribute to white papers and proposals

  • Provide technical briefings and reports and support client engagement

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary staff

The Space & Survivability Lab within the Advanced Technology and Systems Division at SRI is home to several collaborative groups performing research and development in a variety of areas, including electrically small antennas, optical materials, photonics, advanced sensing systems, nanofabrication, energetic materials, radar systems, and atmospheric science. The primary goal of our lab is to apply cutting-edge research to address applications in national security.






Responsibilities




  • Apply antenna concepts and terminology to inform the design and optimization of antennas
  • Use commercial software such as Ansys HFSS, COMSOL Multiphysics, or Lumerical to analyze and optimize antennas
  • Assist with fabrication and testing of antennas, including anechoic chamber measurements
  • Review literature to identify competing approaches and alternative solutions
  • Contribute to project reports and customer briefings
  • Contribute to white papers and proposals





Qualifications




  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline or MS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline with 2 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with commercial electromagnetic modeling software such as Ansys HFSS, COMSOL Multiphysics, or Lumerical required
  • Knowledge of antennas, radar and RF communications systems required
  • Familiarity with RF and microwave measurement methods and equipment required
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain DoD security clearance required.
  • Current/Active clearance is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work on-site in Menlo Park, CA
  • Ability to do limited travel required.

The salary range is: $123,860-184,235. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
