Job summary

STCNET is seeking a Research Engineer to conduct research on obscurant materials for DoD applications. You will plan, direct, and perform developmental testing on vehicle-mounted obscuration systems and related grenades, in both laboratory and field settings.

The role requires a strong background in engineering, materials science or physics, plus at least five years of related testing experience, and US citizenship with the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience supporting vehicle testing.
  • U.S. citizen able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Proficient in planning and conducting laboratory and field testing.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and ability to multitask and meet schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and conduct experiments; identify novel obscurant materials and evaluate emissions.
  • Assess dispersion, toxicity, and data through instrumentation and math-based analysis.

Job description

Research Engineer

Location: Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD 21005, US (Primary)

Responsibilities

The Research Engineer will conduct research related to the design, development, evaluation, and use of obscurant materials to support doD efforts to protect warfighters and military vehicles from optical or electro‑optical sensors. Research will be performed within a doD laboratory and in the field. The Engineer will plan, direct, and conduct developmental testing related to vehicle‑mounted obscuration systems and countermeasures, help design, develop, and test new obscurant grenades and dissemination systems, and perform experimental modifications of existing equipment.

  • Prepare and conduct experiments, identify novel obscurant materials, and evaluate their effectiveness to block sections of the electromagnetic spectrum.
  • Safely work with materials to identify chemical properties and toxicity, assess effective aerial dissemination, and evaluate performance using instrumentation and strong math and computer skills for data analysis.
  • Provide engineering support for planning and conducting developmental testing for military vehicles with mounted obscuration grenades or generators.
  • Write and contribute to presentations, technical reports, and publications.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience supporting vehicle testing.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with researching and testing military vehicle obscuration systems such as grenade launchers.
  • Experience with research or testing related to explosive dispersion of materials.
