About IMS

The Institute for Matter and Systems (IMS) is a Georgia Tech interdisciplinary research institute that connects faculty, researchers, centers, programs, and shared facilities across science and engineering. IMS advances the science, technology, and societal underpinnings of innovative materials, processes, and devices and integrates them into systems that address complex grand challenges. Across four research thrusts, Microelectronics, Human-Centric Technologies, the Built Environment, and Infrastructure and Methodologies, IMS works across all length scales, from atoms to integrated systems, to create sustainable, equitable, and transformative technologies.

Job Summary

Responsibility to identify, cultivate, and assist in building strategic partnerships that align with the Institute's multidisciplinary priorities. Apply a consistent approach to strategic planning to help maintain the organizational process and help steward the achievement of priorities to assist senior leaders in setting goals that align with strategic initiatives. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance, providing feedback, and making pay recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Job Duty 1 - Apply domain expertise in manufacturing and materials to advance research collaborations between external partners and specific Georgia Tech units whose research interest match the partners' interests
• Job Duty 2 - Coordinate response of Georgia Tech researchers working with external partners on collaborative research opportunities including major federal programs; support the development of new and strategic Institute initiatives
• Job Duty 3 - Build relationships with industry and corporate clients to engage stakeholders in areas that are aligned with Institute research and education initiatives. Assess the impact and effectiveness of research engagement efforts and propose improvements as needed
• Job Duty 4 - Leverage Institute resources and use knowledge of industry research environments to tailor partnership models that drive a culture of open innovation and enterprise transformation
• Job Duty 5 - Participate in meetings in order to connect partnership activities among the interdisciplinary research institutes with institute-level development activities. Prepare reports and presentations to share progress and outcomes with key stakeholders and leadership
• Job Duty 6 - Identify potential funding opportunities for research projects. Collaborate with researchers to secure funding from various sources, such as government grants, private foundations, or industry partnerships
• Job Duty 7 - Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience

Five to seven years of job-related experience

Preferred Qualifications

• At least five years of relevant experience in academic research, research development, industry R&D, technology partnerships, corporate engagement, government research programs, or a related area.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly develop a high-level understanding of scientific and engineering research across technical areas and explain its importance, applications, and value to different audiences.
• Strong record of building productive relationships with faculty, researchers, technical professionals, organizational leaders, and external stakeholders.
• Ability to identify opportunities, set strategy, take initiative, and move complex work from concept to implementation.
• Experience in or with a research university, national laboratory, government research organization, technology company, or other research-intensive environment.
• Experience developing university-industry or other external research and development partnerships.
• Familiarity with sponsored research agreements, nondisclosure agreements, intellectual property and technology transfer, philanthropic support, and government research funding.
• Experience developing interdisciplinary proposals or partnerships involving multiple investigators or organizations.

Proposed Salary

$93,650.00/yr to 158,269.00/yr

• Previous experience with university and external research and development including sponsored research agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and intellectual property a plus
• Excellent skills in building long-term relationships and written and verbal communications skills.
