Job summary

CU Boulder’s JILA Electronics Shop is seeking a Professional Research Assistant to support diverse electronics projects. This full‑time role involves designing, testing, and repairing analog and digital electronics, mentoring students, and collaborating with scientists.

The position emphasizes hands‑on production, rapid prototyping, and technical education to advance JILA research. We welcome applicants from related STEM fields with strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field.
• Experience producing digital/analog electronics designs to meet stringent requirements.
• Experience layout/design/assembly/troubleshooting PCBs for complex projects.
• Working knowledge of KiCad and ability to collaborate with researchers.
• Understanding of electronics concepts, safety, testing, and repair.

Responsibilities

• Construct and test new equipment to meet stringent specifications from JILA Scientists.
• Produce custom-made items on short notice using drill press, mill, soldering equipment and shop tools.
• Provide mentoring and instruction to JILA students and shop customers; assist with inquiries.
• Seek out and learn new technologies to support current and future research needs.
• In coordination with Electronics Engineers, support electronics production and design needs.
• Follow guidance to develop design, testing and repair of electronics devices.
