Job summary

University of Colorado Boulder’s JILA Electronics Shop seeks aProfessional Research Assistant to provide technical support, consulting and design services advancing JILA research. This role collaborates with scientists and students to expand knowledge in analog electronics, production, and testing.

Responsibilities include equipment construction, rapid fabrication using shop tools, mentoring students, and learning new technologies to meet current and future research needs.

Qualifications

• Producing sophisticated digital and/or analog electronics designs to meet stringent performance requirements.
• Understanding electronics design concepts, safety, applications, theory, equipment use and maintenance including RF design, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzers, CAD software and repair.
• Experience tutoring students in a higher education environment.

Responsibilities

• Construct and test new equipment to meet specifications from JILA Scientists.
• Produce custom-made items on short notice using drills, mills, soldering and shop equipment.
• Provide mentoring and instruction to JILA students and others shop customers; guide electronics design options and follow-up with researchers.
• Seek out and learn new technologies to support current and future research project needs.
• In coordination with Electronics Engineers, support students and researchers with electronics production and design needs.
• Follow technical guidance from Electronics Engineers around analog and digital skill sets to develop design, testing, and repair of electronics devices.
