Gables Search Group is seeking a Research Director to lead day-to-day scientific direction and a 20+ member team across molecular biology and related disciplines in an onsite Rockville, MD setting.

The role emphasizes integration of computational methods, development of novel assays, and strategic R&D planning to translate research into market-ready diagnostics. Strong leadership and communication to engage bench scientists and executives are essential.

Formación

• PhD required in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Structural Biology, or related discipline.
• Demonstrated success leading and developing scientific teams.
• Hands-on experience with nucleic acid technologies including detection and amplification platforms.

Responsabilidades

• Partner cross-functionally with Product Development, Commercialization, and Regulatory Affairs to translate research into market-ready diagnostic solutions.
• Represent the R&D function at senior leadership level and externally with key scientific partners.

Our client is expanding and seeks a Research Director to serve as both a strategic partner and an operations leader.

The Ideal Candidate Will Take On The Following Tasks

• Serve as the lead with senior R&D leadership, with full accountability for day-to-day scientific direction and team performance.
• Direct, mentor, and develop a team of 20+ research scientists across molecular biology, assay development, nucleic acids research, and related disciplines.
• Integrate computational approaches to enhance research outcomes and accelerate discovery.
• Drive the development and optimization of novel assays, with a consistent focus on innovation and differentiation.
• Contribute to long-range R&D strategy, portfolio prioritization, and resource planning.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product Development, Commercialization, and Regulatory Affairs to translate research into market-ready diagnostic solutions.
• Represent the R&D function at the senior leadership level and externally with key scientific and industry partners.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess The Following Qualities

• 20+ years of progressive experience in molecular biology research, including significant time in a team leadership role.
• PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Structural Biology, or a related discipline required.
• Demonstrated success leading and developing scientific teams.
• Background or working knowledge in structural biology is strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with nucleic acid technologies, including DNA/RNA detection, amplification platforms, or oligonucleotide-based assay development, is preferred.
• Experience in the development of novel assays preferred.
• Track record of translating scientific innovation into commercial or clinical applications.
• Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage audiences from bench scientists to C-suite.
