Job summary

The J.M. Smucker Company is offering a Research & Development Internship in Orrville with a hybrid work arrangement (75% onsite).

The role supports one or more small research projects, including data analysis and reporting of key findings, under supervision and collaboration with the R&D team. A Sophomore or Junior in Food Science (or related field) is sought, with strong time-management and leadership abilities.

Qualifications

• Sophomore or junior in Food Science or related field required.
• Strong time-management, detail-oriented record keeping, leadership, organization and project management skills expected.
• Ability to work independently and in teams on R&D projects.

Responsibilities

• Apply product development methodologies and scientific methods to organize and execute one or more project types (new product development, analytical method development, or cost savings initiatives).
• Maintain thorough lab records with hypotheses, protocols, results and next steps.
• Keep lab work environment clean and organized.
• Communicate effectively with peers and project teams.
• Provide support to other team project trials or start-ups, and train others on new lab methods/SOPs; participate in team meetings and ideation sessions.

Your Opportunity as a Research & Development Intern

As an intern within ourResearch and Developmentorganization you willhave the opportunity toindependently manage and conduct all technical functions of a small research project, as well asanalyzedata and report on key findings.

Location: Orrville, Corporate Offices

Work Arrangements: Hybrid - at least 75% onsite expectations

Work Schedule: We are looking for students who are available for a 3-month summer internship but also looking for students available for 6-8-month positions (from January - August or May - December). Please indicate your availability on the application.

In this role you will:

• Apply product development methodologies and scientific method to organize and execute one or more of the following project types through independent or team work: new product development initiative(s), analytical method development, or cost savings initiative.

• Maintain thorough lab records with hypotheses, protocols, results and next steps

• Maintain clean and organized laboratory work environment

• Work and communicate effectively and productively with peers and project teams

• Provide support to other team project trials or start-ups, training other team members or locations on new lab methods/SOPs, and participate in team meetings and ideations

What we are looking for:

• A Sophomore or Junior standing in schoolwith requisite educational experience in Food Science or related field

• A well-rounded skill set including strong time-management, ability to keep detail-oriented records, proven leadership abilities, good organization, and project management skills
