Overview




A Research & Development Calibration Technician, under general supervision and/or using procedures/work instructions, safely operates and maintains one or more experimental R&D systems.






Responsibilities




Work involves operations and preventive and corrective maintenance including the following:

    Performs routine laboratory procedures, maintenance of laboratory equipment, and other laboratory tasks as directed in support of the R&D mission to include operating research equipment within the limitations of the approved SARS permit.
  • Collect samples; assist in monitoring and calibrating research equipment.
  • Perform work in accordance with standard operating procedures; suggest modifications to procedures and refine techniques to meet objectives.
  • Understand and comply with safety standards to maintain a safe environment.
  • Implement quality control policies and procedures of the laboratory.
  • Performs tasks and other administrative activities outside the scope of laboratory work as needed.
  • Performs compressed gas cylinder deliveries.
  • Collaborate effectively with other team members to resolve issues and ensure quality adherence principals are being met.
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure timely project execution.





Qualifications




Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Vocational/technical training beyond high school
  • Minimum of five (5) years of job-related experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to understand Engineering drawings and documents that will allow for the safe and efficient installation of projects.
  • Must be able to pass the NETL Swagelok certification test. (Company training will be provided.)
  • Computer / Software Skills - proficiently utilizing Microsoft Outlook email, Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat, payroll time entry, and complete required online training.
  • Good attendance, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as part of a team or independently.
  • Ability to follow oral / written instructions, exercise good judgement to complete assignments on time.
  • Work safely under general supervision, exercise good judgement, and manage time to complete assignments.
  • Good verbal and written communication

Preferred Responsibilities/Requirements

  • At least seven (7) years of job-related experience or equivalent or possess current plumber's license.
  • Installation of Swagelok fractional tubing and tubing components such as valves, regulators, and gauges.
  • Experienced in the installation of Autoclave Engineers coned and threaded tubing
  • Set up and perform pneumatic and hydrostatic pressure testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan the sequence of necessary actions to complete a job.
  • Perform non-code welding to fabricate or repair non-critical items.
  • Provide custom sheet metal forming/work.
  • Use Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) to install threaded and flanged piping along with other process equipment.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must have a valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer, pre-placement physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and have a clean motor vehicle report (MVR).
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the IUOE Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Complete all required Computer Based Training (CBT).
  • Able to work night, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Work Environment/Physical Demands




Work Environment

  • Most positions involve work in environments (e.g., projects, labs, outside locations, etc. where mechanical equipment is being installed, tested, analyzed, monitored, or operated and / or maintained. Equipment may be loud and noisy and or have exposed moving components.

Physical Demands

  • Such positions may involve routine lifting, up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to perform all the typical repetitive physical requirements such as: walking, pushing, pulling, handling, grasping, kneeling, working overhead.
  • Able to work in awkward positions for extended periods of time or in confined spaces.
  • Constant use of vision and mental alertness is required.

Integrated Safety Management

  • Observe and follow all corporate, federal, state and site environmental safety and health (ES&H) policies and procedures that pertain to the job classification being performed.
  • Perform only those tasks in which you have the required training, competence, knowledge, skills, and abilities to prevent injury to one's-self, other employees, the public, or the environment.
  • Hazard and situational awareness for ES&H risks associated with the work. Perform work safely in accordance with hazard controls.
  • Report all unsafe operations, and, if necessary, exercise stop-work authority in cases of imminent danger.
  • Must wear proper PPE as required and ensure PPE is in acceptable condition.
  • Keep office space, operating area, control room, mechanical room, warehouse etc. clean and orderly.
  • Attend all safety meetings and stay current with assigned required training.
  • Maintain active involvement in the introduction, revision, and/or promotion of ES&H/ISM program activities.

Hours of Work

  • This is typically an 8-hour per day, five days per week schedule. Overtime on nights and weekends may be required to meet client needs.
