Job summary

dsm-firmenich seeks a Scientist, Research Data Modeling to craft data models for diverse research data, enabling AI-ready assets. You’ll work with scientists, data engineers, and governance teams to design structures across formulation, ingredient discovery, lab workflows, and other scientific domains.

The candidate will exhibit hands-on data modelling experience, knowledge of modern platforms such as Databricks, and a strong interest in applying data practices to complex research environments.

Qualifications

• PhD, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, engineering, data, informatics, or related discipline with relevant experience in research or data modeling.
• 2+ years of relevant experience for Master’s/Bachelor’s candidates; PhD candidates with relevant research/data experience are invited.
• Hands-on data modelling across conceptual, logical, and/or physical models including dimensional, semantic, or ER approaches.
• Experience or interest in research, R&D, lab, nutrition, biotech, pharma, microbiome, omics, or related data environments.
• Familiarity with FAIR principles, metadata, data quality, governance, and modern platforms/tools listed above.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and/or physical data models for research and scientific data domains.
• Translate data needs from scientists and stakeholders into practical data structures.
• Collaborate with data engineers and platform teams to implement models in Databricks or other platforms.
• Apply data modelling standards, metadata management, semantic clarity, and reusable design.
• Contribute in multidisciplinary teams across Science & Research, Data Science & AI, Digital & Technology, and business domains.
