Department Information:
The Department of Chemistry consists of a well-rounded research community with cutting-edge expertise in a wide variety of modern disciplines including analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, materials chemistry, and biochemistry.
The IU Molecular Structure Center ( IUMSC ) is part of the Chemistry Department and provides state-of-the-art service and research crystallography to Indiana University faculty. Services include routine and non-routine small-molecule single-crystal X-ray structure determination and X-ray powder diffraction analysis as well as specialized, researcher-designed diffraction experiments. The IUMSC offers crystallography classes to students and enables researchers to carry out their own experiments. The center also develops information technology tools for remote instrument access, fast data dissemination, and shared data access. The IUMSC has a significant outreach component and is dedicated to improving scientific literacy of the general public.
The IUMSC has an open position for a postdoctoral fellow in the area of chemical crystallography with experience in single crystal small molecule crystallography and powder diffraction. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with faculty and students in all aspects of crystallographic analysis including data collection and interpretation, solution, refinement, preparation of manuscripts, as well as user support and training and technical consultation. Experience with routine instrument maintenance and repair is expected. Knowledge in computing, information technology, programming, as well as teaching and grant writing experience are desirable.

Required Qualifications:
PhD in chemistry or related sciences. Experience in small molecule and powder diffraction including data collection, structure solution, refinement, visualization and manuscript preparation.Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Organization, analysis, motivation, and prioritization abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience at synchrotron or other national facilities is highly desired.Programming knowledge is a plus.

The initial appointment for this position will be for 12 months. Additional 12-month extension will be available based on performance and/or availability of funds. A competitive salary along with a benefits package will be offered.
