The Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Immunology at Morehouse School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and talentedResearch Coordinatorto join Dr. Erica L. Johnson’s laboratory. Dr. Johnson’s laboratory focuses on the biology of maternal health disparities and mother-to-child transmission of viral pathogens. This is a full‑time opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated research coordinator. This role is primarily responsible for subject recruitment, subject enrollment, data management and analysis, coordination and implementation of ongoing research activities, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate possesses experience and interest working in the maternal and/or pediatric health space and demonstrates a vested commitment to health equity.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Study Participant Management: Oversee the electronic health records (EHRs) to identify & match study participants and screen and enroll study participants for available clinical trials.
  • Clinical Data Management: Manage clinical trial data sets, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and security. Ensure that all clinical trial data are accurately entered into electronic data capture (EDC) systems and promptly, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Study Coordination: Collaborate with researchers and physicians to implement health informatics solutions that support the enrollment of clinical trial participants.
  • Study Compliance and Data Integrity: Maintain data standards, ontologies, and metadata frameworks in alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements. Ensure adherence to clinical trial regulatory requirements (IRB , HIPAA , GCP , etc.).
  • Data Analysis: Assist with data visualization and communication of clinical and real-world data to various stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Contribute to the drafting of manuscripts, reports, and grants, as well as present findings at scientific meetings and conferences.
Reporting & Documentation
  • Maintain detailed records of outreach activities, including meetings, interactions, and outcomes.
  • Prepare regular reports detailing outreach efforts, challenges, and opportunities for the leadership team.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of local community dynamics, culture, and key stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with healthcare or academic research settings is an advantage.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in maternal health research or clinical research.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Understanding of research methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Prior experience working with diverse populations and communities.
  • Knowledge of ethical considerations and regulatory requirements in human subjects research.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a health-related field from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Determination of effective strategies and participation in the recruitment and enrollment of research participants
  • Oversees data management for research projects.
  • With appropriate credentialing and training, may perform phlebotomy, specimen collection, or diagnostics.
  • Provides support in developing research plans, study designs, and statistical analysis plans for research and evaluation studies.
  • Conducts or participates in the informed consent process.
  • Trains and guides less experienced staff.
  • Contributes to the preparation of publications for dissemination by providing thorough literature review.
  • Initiates and monitors IRB submissions.
  • Monitors the progress of research activities; develops and maintains records of research activities, and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure that projects are executed successfully and completed within time frames to meet research objectives.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy for all work.
  • Work well as a team member, participating in positive communication, and foster an environment that allows the team to work well together.

  • Awareness of ethical considerations related to the informed consent process and data privacy. Also, familiarity with regulatory and ethical aspects of clinical research, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, Institutional Review Board (IRB) procedures, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are encouraged to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment.
