Job summary

Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is seeking a Research Facilitator to enable economic research through state-of-the-art computing systems, software optimization, and HPC workflows.

You will partner with economists to co-create computing capabilities, reduce barriers to HPC use, and accelerate time-to-publication with parallelization and modern techniques. This role includes training and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a computational field or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of post-secondary education or relevant work experience.
• Proficiency in Python, R, Matlab, C, Stata, SQL or equivalent.
• Knowledge of AI tools and large language models for research applications.
• Strong communication skills for diverse research audiences.
• Experience with Linux command line and environment.
• Experience collaborating with researchers.
• Experience with version control systems (Git/GitLab).
• Terminal proficiency and Linux system navigation.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to economists and research staff through consultations.
• Build understanding of research activities and computational needs.
• Co-author research papers under economists' guidance.
• Design, debug, and optimize research workflows and software models.
• Implement software parallelization and performance improvements.
• Support adoption of cloud computing and AI tools in workflows.
• Facilitate usage of on-prem and cloud HPC environments.
• Communicate regularly with research staff and technical teams.
• Collaborate across teams on computational approaches and best practices.
• Develop and deliver curriculum on computing tools and techniques.
• Provide one-on-one consultations and maintain resource documentation.
• Give presentations on latest tools and techniques.
