Job summary

University of Maryland's Division of Information Technology is seeking a Research Computing Engineer to design and support cyberinfrastructure, software, and data-facing solutions for researchers. You will work with researchers to tailor workflows, automate cloud provisioning, and help bring mature project management to research software on campus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • 3–5 years of experience in software and data engineering environments.
  • Experience with data pipelines, ETL, and data workflows.
  • Knowledge of machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and JAX.
  • Experience creating/operating container-based infrastructure (Docker, etc.).
  • GPU programming knowledge and experience.
  • Proficiency in languages used in computational research (Python, Julia, C/C++, FORTRAN, R).
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support research cyberinfrastructure, software, and data-facing solutions.
  • Consult with researchers across disciplines to understand software and data needs and propose solutions.
  • Provide training workshops and contribute to project planning and tracking; help automate cloud account provisioning and migrate workflows to cloud environments.
