Job summary

PPG is seeking a Polymer Film Research Expert in the Photochromics Group at the Monroeville site. You will contribute to polymer science research at the intersection of films, adhesive coatings, and device technologies. Scope includes developing novel coatings and laminates, and collaborating across teams to deliver milestones.

The role requires a PhD in polymer chemistry or related field and strong hands-on experimental skills. Up to 10% travel may be involved; on-site work at Monroeville.

Qualifications

  • PhD in polymer chemistry, materials science, or related field with 0+ years of experience or equivalent post-doctoral work.
  • Strong analytical and math skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across multi-functional teams.
  • Creative hands-on scientist with initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new products through polymeric materials design, adhesives preparation, application, and testing.
  • Elucidate structure-property relationships in films and coatings.
  • Source and screen new film and resin materials.
  • Characterize optical and adhesive properties of films and laminates.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and advocate lab safety.
  • Apply efficient experimental design and statistical data analysis to accelerate product development.
  • Collaborate with team members and external partners to reach milestones.
  • Communicate results through presentations and written reports.
  • Pursue intellectual property protection for new technologies.
  • Travel up to 10%.

As a Polymer Film Research Expert , in the Photochromics Group at the Monroeville Business and Technology Center, you will contribute to research work at the intersection of polymer science, films, films processes and material science. You will be related to the formulations and development of novel adhesive, optical coatings, films, film laminates and devices.

  • Knowledge of polymer science, film, film laminate, adhesion chemistry and devices is desired.
  • Familiarity with organic chromophores, optics and conductive materials is a plus.
