Job summary

CBS News in New York is seeking an off-air reporter to gather editorial information for producers, correspondents, and writers under tight deadlines. Responsibilities include locating statistics, studies, and government documents, and supporting broadcasts with in-depth background checks.

You will field requests from the anchor and executive producer, verify copy, and ensure accuracy of graphics and headlines.

Qualifications

  • College degree is required.
  • At least one year of experience on a daily news broadcast or as a reporter for a print publication.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays when necessary.
  • Interest in newsgathering and hunger for knowledge.
  • Ability to pivot on short notice.

  • Field editorial and other requests from broadcast members, including the anchor and executive producer.
  • Track down story subjects and run background checks on potential subjects.
  • Purchase and/or fair-use photos and video footage from licensing agencies or outside vendors.
  • Fact-check editorial copy, including correspondent and anchor scripts, headlines, and teases.
  • Check graphical and visual elements for accuracy, including package and intro graphics, name fonts, and story headline banners.
  • Support future projects and enterprise reporting.
  • Conduct deep dives to find editorial material for stories and graphics.
