The role

The Particle Physics group of the University of Bristol (tinyurl.com/particle-bristol), UK, seeks a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to join its team working on the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE, dunescience.org). The Bristol DUNE group plays a leading role in development of the DUNE data-acquisition system, and is responsible for delivering the DUNE timing system. In this role you will contribute to the development, production, and commissioning of the timing system. You will also support the wider interests of the Bristol DUNE group, which include supernovae detection, nuclear cross-section measurements with ProtoDUNE (CERN), and preparation for physics at DUNE.

What will you be doing?

With a key role in the Bristol DUNE group, you will :

  • Develop the DUNE timing system (DTS), including development of software and/or firmware
  • Contribute to production of custom electronics for the DTS
  • Commission DTS setups in Bristol, at CERN, and underground at SURF.
  • Support the wider development of the DUNE data-acquisition system.
  • Support the activities of the Bristol particle physics group.

You should apply if

  • A PhD or Master’s degree in a science or engineering subject
  • Experience working with instrumentation in a research environment.
  • Excellent software or firmware development skills.
  • A desire to contribute to fundamental science.

Additional information

Contract type: Open ended with funding until 31/03/2027, but we expect this to be extended in a future grant

Work pattern: Full time

Grade: I or J/Pathway 2

Salary: £38,249 - £44,128 (Grade I) or £42,882 - £48,149 (Grade J) per annum
