Job summary

Altasciences in the United States is seeking a Research Associate to perform technical procedures, restrain animals, operate equipment, and collect data under GLP standards, supporting Study Supervisors and Directors.

You will follow SOPs, assist with blood draws and dosing, record data, monitor animal health, and help maintain study integrity while working in a collaborative team. Requires a HS diploma; BS in a scientific field preferred.

Qualifications

  • MS Office proficiency; ability to adapt to new software.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and communicate with all levels of staff.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Adaptability to changing project needs and priorities.
  • ALAT certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follow SOPs and Protocols to perform procedures, record data, and maintain study records.
  • Assist with blood draws, catheter placement, dose administration, and euthanasia.
  • Operate laboratory equipment as needed and monitor animal health.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.
  • Provide accurate data entry and timely reporting to Study Directors.
  • Monitor and report changes in animal behavior or health to appropriate personnel.
  • Support study coordination and ensure compliance with GLP standards.

About The Role

As a Research Associate (RA), you’ll perform technical procedures, restrain animals, operate laboratory equipment, collect specimens, and collects data on laboratory animals (canines, mice, rabbits, rats, non-human primates, swine, etc.) as specified in Protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in compliance with GLP standards. Support Study Supervisor(s) and Study Director(s) by performing and assisting with sample and data collection on research studies.

What You’ll Do Here
  • Follow SOPs and Protocols to perform procedures on study and stock animals, including, but not limited to: clinical observations, food consumptions, body weights, urine collection, administering injectable anesthesia, mating procedures, restraint, enrichment, and feeding and food removal.

  • Assist with blood draws, catheter placement, dose administration, and euthanasia.

  • Follow written and verbal instruction: Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Protocols, Daily Schedules.

  • Record, enters and reviews raw data, study and facility.

  • Sets up for procedures and maintains ancillaries on study animals.

  • Operate selected laboratory equipment (i.e., glucometer, digital thermometer).

  • Monitor and report changes in animal behavior or health, and problems with animal rooms (e.g., caging, lights, and temperature) to all appropriate personnel.

  • Maintain general cleanliness and organization of work areas.

  • Monitor and report study changes to Study Director and all appropriate personnel.

  • Obtain animal information (tattoo, sex, ear tag, ear notch, etc), recognizes animal behavior health status, and reports to appropriate personnel.

What You’ll Need to Succeed
  • High School Diploma and/or GED required; BS/BA in a scientific discipline preferred.

  • Minimum of 0-1 of related experience.

  • Knowledge of MS Office suite and the ability to adapt easily to new software programs.

  • Ability to work cross functionally on process improvements.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and maintain organization in a fast paced, changing environment.

  • Ability to manage change and can readily adapt to new projects.

  • Positive attitude toward work and co-workers.

  • Being comfortable communicating with all levels of management and employees.

  • Able to identify and resolve problems as they are encountered.

  • ALAT certification preferred.
