Job summary

University of Texas at Austin, Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering, is seeking a Research Associate in Nuclear Engineering Teaching Laboratory to lead cutting-edge research in applied robotics for extreme environments and to mentor graduate students and postdoctoral researchers on funded projects at UT Main Campus.

Responsibilities include advancing autonomy, human–machine interfaces, mobile manipulation, control, and hardware/sensor integration; supervising and educating researchers;

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in engineering or computer science in robotics.
  • The researcher should have at least four years of experience using the Robot Operating System (ROS) with knowledge of both Python and C++ well as a history of creating or contributing to the ROS software base.
  • Two years of experience in the area of applied robotics related to at least one of the research topics above.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out research in applied robotics for extreme environments (defense, space, nuclear, oil & gas).
  • Serve as co-principal investigator or senior researcher to obtain research funding.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and software repositories.
  • Supervise and educate graduate students and postdocs and support publication efforts.
