Job description

Join to apply for the Research Associate Mukherjee Lab role at UPMC.

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full Time Research Associate - Basic Science to support the Mukherjee Lab.

The Mukherjee lab conducts translational research to identify metabolic vulnerabilities in cancer. We use mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and proteomic approaches, 3D co-culture systems, and mouse models to map the cancer-stromal cell interactions in the tumor microenvironment.

This position will work 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. This position requires travel less than 5% of the time. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

The Research Associate - Basic Science conducts and manages independent research, assists with grant applications and manuscript preparation, and trains research personnel.

Responsibilities:
  1. Develop research projects including protocol design, budget preparation and justification, data collection and analysis, and data storage.
  2. Plan and implement training programs for Research Assistants on research activities and practices including grant application, budget management, data analysis, record keeping, and scientific integrity.
  3. Assist in the preparation and submission of grant applications including budget preparation and justification.
  4. Supervise research assistants and monitor budgets. Responsible for record keeping, inventory, and equipment management.
  5. Possess a Master's degree in a basic science or clinical research area relevant to the research activities with at least one year of experience, or a bachelor's degree in a basic science with at least three years of experience in a biomedical research environment.
  6. Advanced degrees in relevant fields such as applied sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, and biology with prior experience are preferred.
  7. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in designing and implementing research projects. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for working within a group, managing and training research personnel, and effective communication with supervisors.
  8. Experience in animal handling and research is preferred.
