Job description

Research Associate, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Position Title: Research Associate, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

The University at Buffalo Nanosatellite Laboratory (UBNL) is seeking to hire a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate to manage the laboratory’s overall operations. The UBNL has been helping undergraduates kickstart their successful careers since 2013. Alumni from the laboratory have moved on to careers at places like NASA, SpaceX, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and many more. It aids students in building the skills necessary to become experienced engineers. Currently, the UBNL has one mission, which will be delivered to the Air Force as part of its University Nanosatellite Program, and a Short Cycle Laboratory (SCL). The SCL is for newcomers and those who desire to work in the laboratory but have yet to decide which subsystem to join.

The successful candidate will help manage the overall operations of the UBNL. Tasks may include:

  • Guide the UBNL leadership personnel, which include the Chief Engineer, the Program Manager, and satellite subsystem leads.
  • Work with the SCL lead on how to teach the students skills necessary to work on a nanosatellite mission as well as allow them to try out multiple different subsystem activities.
  • Develop methods or research that incorporate highly specialized training in a specific specialty.
  • Ensure that all reports and presentations are done in a timely manner.
  • Mentoring of undergraduate students.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a graduate degree in the field of study or discipline.
  • Basic professional knowledge of the disciplinary field and the ability to relate this knowledge to various phenomena under study.
  • Requires the ability to apply the theory, concepts, and principles in the field of study or discipline and practical experience gained through an internship or a year’s employment in a professional position.
