College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia Department of Physiology focuses on the framework of the body's cells, organs and systems, how they work, and how abnormal function leads to disease. The department supports outstanding research and education. Our federally funded scientists study major health issues such as cardiovascular disease and hypertension and train researchers who publish in top journals.

Job Summary

This position provides administrative and technical oversight in a cardiorenal research laboratory in the Department of Physiology. Responsibilities include: ensuring research protocols and safety guidelines are followed, managing laboratory resources, providing teaching and technical oversight to trainees and staff, processing data, presenting findings, assisting the PI with current and future research applications, and coordinating administrative and technical arrangements of animal models and related records.

Research in the Kriegel laboratory focuses on: 1) molecular changes associated with hypertension and/or kidney pathology, and 2) how chronic kidney disease leads to cardiovascular disease in adults and children. The lab uses molecular technologies to study pathophysiology and supports work in cell and animal models and translational studies involving human subjects.

Responsibilities
  • Lab Management: Coordinate research activities in the lab, instruct research staff and students, and advise on research techniques.
  • Animal Management: Coordinate animal model arrangements and maintain records. Perform animal colony maintenance and surgical procedures (injections, gavage, euthanasia). Assist with animal protocol preparation and submission.
  • Experiments: Perform complex data analysis, plan protocols, guide execution by staff, analyze data, and prepare publication-ready figures.
  • Fiscal Management: Track budget resources, interface with vendors and administration on orders and invoices.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure safe operation and compliance with federal and institutional guidelines.
  • Grant Development: Assist PI with data for grant applications and renewals; contribute to writing and publication of findings.
  • Other: Perform other duties incidental to the work described.
Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related field and experience in research or clinical laboratory, or

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience; supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in designing and executing research protocols, collecting and analyzing data; experience with small animals and animal surgery (e.g., osmotic mini-pump placement, telemetry implant, carotid stenosis, craniotomies) or willingness to learn; background in cardiorenal studies.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software; understanding of laboratory protocols and experimental design; background in Biology, Chemistry, or Biochemistry; experience in a research lab with complex experiments.
  • Skills: excellent interpersonal, organizational, budgetary, written, and verbal communication.
  • Abilities: maintain confidentiality; recognize and address improper operating conditions; advise PI and lab members on techniques; exercise sound judgment; work with research animals.
Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (occasional after-hours work). Salary: 45,400–56,700 annually. Pay Band: B8. Salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Recruitment Period: Until Filled. Benefits are available to full-time employees and eligible part-time employees, including health insurance, retirement options, vacation/Sick leave, and holidays. Tuition Assistance Program eligibility may apply after 6 months of employment.
