Job summary

UMass Med School in Worcester seeks a Research Associate III (Temporary) to perform a variety of research experiments under the direction of the Principal Investigator. The role may include operational lab management and supervising personnel.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s in biology or a related field with 3+ years of research experience (or a Master’s with 1 year), have strong data analysis skills, and proficient in Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biological or natural science with 3+ years of relevant research experience or Master’s with 1 year of relevant research experience.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• Strong ability to analyze complex visual data in a quantitative and objective manner.
• Ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex laboratory experiments and may be responsible for one or more independent research projects.
• Utilize software relevant to experiments and equipment used.
• Interpret data, form conclusions and decide on next steps with significant independence under PI supervision.
• Maintain accurate records and modify protocols with PI approval.
• Review literature, publications and grants relevant to assigned projects.
• Record results according to lab, sponsor & university protocol.
• Perform in-depth data analysis and mathematical computations.
• Maintain a detailed lab notebook per lab practice.
• Prepare and present findings in formats suitable for publication as per PI specs.
• May oversee lab supply levels and negotiate with suppliers to optimize resources.
• Monitor equipment service contracts and maintenance.
• Comply with safety regulations and infection control standards.
• Train on IACUC, IRB, EHS, Radiation safety protocols; draft SOPs as needed.
• May manage general operations of the laboratory and personnel.
