Posting Summary: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Associate III for the department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Under direction of a faculty member, performs technical research activities within a laboratory; assists in the conduct of highly specialized and technical research on polymerases, helicases, and proteases. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • As directed, performs various research and clinical technical operations relative to ongoing investigatory activities of a laboratory as well as experimental protocol for protein-ligand interactions, enzyme activity assays. May assist in conducting specialized research for a particular phase of a project.
  • Participates in the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation involving protein purification, stopped-flow kinetic analysis, Biolayer interferometry, and high resolution nucleic acid analysis. Under supervision, assists with the coordination of the analytical, biochemical, physiology and instrumentation functions with the clinical and research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the department.
  • Participates in the evaluation of the existing procedures, suggesting revisions where necessary and proposing new procedures where required.
  • As directed, assists with the instructing and training of students, fellows and other lab staff as needed.
  • As required, assists in the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the department. Evaluates existing procedures in the literature and proposes modifications or changes in order to keep the methodology and procedures current.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience in stopped-flow kinetics, Biolayer interferometry, and protein purification.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite as well as have excellent oral/written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of experience in at least four (4) of the following areas within Biochemistry, Cell Biology and/or Molecular Biology preferred (bioinformatics, DNA/RNA and protein gel electrophoresis, fluorescence/mass spectroscopy, human mitochondria, molecular cloning, nuclear/cell wall staining and radiometrics).
