Job summary

Louisiana State University is seeking a Research Associate 2 to support the Wetland Biogeochemistry Analytical Services lab. You will assist with sample intake, preparation, routine analyses, data entry, and lab upkeep to ensure timely processing for LSU researchers and external clients.

The role emphasizes hands-on experience with environmental analytical techniques, accuracy in data handling, and strict adherence to SOPs, EPA methods, and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree
• One year related experience
• Familiar with auto pipettes for calibration and quality control standards
• Familiar with handling hydrochloric, nitric, and sulfuric acids for cleaning labware
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs
• Basic experience with Microsoft Excel

Responsibilities

• Sample intake and project tracking; verify IDs, chain-of-custody, preservation, holding times, and sample integrity.
• Sample preparation and routine analysis, including drying, grinding, weighing, filtration, digestion, extraction, and preservation per SOPs.
• Operate routine instruments (CHN, ICP-OES, TOC, AA500) with calibrated procedures and startup/shutdown routines.
• Manage data entry into databases and Excel; assist QA/QC documentation and preliminary data summaries.
• Laboratory maintenance including stock solutions and calibration standards; assist with other duties as assigned.
