Description:

Works under the direction of a faculty member. Provides expertise in the design, operation and analysis of experiments or research projects in areas such as chemistry, biology, psychology, sociology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, optometry, all fields of engineering, etc. May prepare samples for testing. Performs advanced testing procedures and performs analyses of data. Prepares reports. Makes uses of a variety of specialized equipment typical within area of specialization. May contribute to grant proposal development.

1. Ensures experiments or research efforts are performed according to specifications.
2. May make recommendations to changes in procedures, processes, orexperimental design.
3. May prepare and/or edit research papers, proposals and reports.
4. Possesses, understands, and applies an advanced knowledgecrossing fields of specialization to develop unique and newapproaches or ideas.
5. Understandss and uses effective management techniques.
6. Designs, operates and analyzes multiple large and/or complexexperiments or research projects.
7. Reviews progress of projects. May serve as liaison with otherareas of specialization to obtain support or technical expertisefor projects.
8. Defines procedures or processes to be used in the researchinvestigations.
9. May personally conduct important and/or technically complexinvestigations.
10. Operates with wide latitude for unreviewed action subject onlyto institutional policies and guidelines and ethicalconsiderations.
11. Provides direction and supervision of graduate andundergraduate research assistants involved in experiments orresearch.

Additional Job Duties:

• Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in conducting organicchemistry experiments.
• Maintain a chemical inventory and interface with EnvironmentalHealth and Safety.
• Maintain a data repository of chemical and biological data.
• Conducting protein-small molecule conjugations and analyticalanalysis.

MQ: Ph.D. Degree with 3 years of experience.
