Job description

About eGenesis

eGenesis is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing human-compatible engineered organs to address the severe global organ shortage. The Company's proprietary genome engineering platform enables extensive, multiplex gene edits to remove key biological barriers, add protective human transgenes, and inactivate endogenous retroviruses. EGEN-2784, a genetically engineered porcine kidney, is the Company's lead program and is currently being evaluated in a multi-patient Expanded Access study at MGH. eGenesis is headquartered in Cambridge, MA.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Analytical Development team as a Research Associate II. This position is an excellent opportunity to help develop new gene editing and xenotransplantation products in an exciting and dynamic environment focused on cutting-edge molecular and cellular engineering technology.

In this role, you will be part of a small team responsible for developing and qualifying methods to assess transgene expression and function in genetically modified porcine cells. This role will involve significant cell culture work, including the isolation, growth and maintenance of primary cells, such as endothelial cells from various porcine organs, and characterizing these cells using techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA, and PCR. To be successful in this role, you will leverage previous experience with immunological and genomic assays. This role is a full-time lab-based position in which being proactive, determined, responsible, coachable, and collaborative will help you thrive.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Independently plan development, optimization, troubleshooting, and execution of robust and reproducible analytical assays to characterize genetically edited porcine animals
  • Utilize various techniques to test the primary cells and/or factors they produce through routine analytical testing (including flow cytometry, ELISA, conventional and real-time PCR, etc)
  • Proactively monitor, track, and bridge critical reagent inventory (e.g., cell lines, assay standards, antibodies) to maintain continuous laboratory workflow without supply gaps or delays
  • Independently identify assay anomalies or failures, conduct root-cause analyses, and propose paths forward to drive group goals to timely completion
  • Optimize laboratory time and material resources through disciplined sample batching and full-plate assay executions
  • Partner closely with QC to lead and support internal technology transfers of analytical methods, ensuring seamless assay transitions, robustness and cross-functional alignment
  • Communicate and present scientific findings at group and company meetings
  • Consistently document experimental procedures and data in ELNs within standard departmental turnaround timelines
  • Contribute to multiple research projects as they arise in our fast-paced, start-up environment
  • Build our laboratory efforts by maintaining and adding to a productive and fun environment
QUALIFICATIONS
  • B.Sc with at least 4 years of industry experience in cell biology, immunology, biomedical engineering or related discipline
  • Prior experience in development, troubleshooting and routine execution of assays to characterize and measure transgene expression and potency, using a variety of methodologies, particularly flow cytometry and ELISA
  • Proficiency in growing and maintaining mammalian primary cells/cell lines in culture and aseptic cell culture techniques
  • Expertise in general cellular and molecular biology techniques, including ELISA, flow cytometry (FACS), and potency assays
  • Demonstrated ability to self-manage daily schedules, independently prioritize tasks across multiple concurrent projects, and adapt efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven track record of optimizing lab efficiency, including sample batching, material resource management, and proactive inventory tracking systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams
  • The base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $98,000.
