Job summary

Texas Biomed is seeking a Research Associate to support NIH-funded HIV/AIDS research using the SIV rhesus macaque model. You will prepare samples, perform immunology and molecular biology assays, and manage biorepositories, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

The role includes tissue processing for spatial transcriptomics, flow cytometry, and next-generation sequencing prep, along with data collection and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or related field required.
• Master's degree in a related scientific discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare blood and tissue samples for nucleic acid extraction (DNA, RNA, microRNA, lncRNA).
• Perform total RNA extraction for gene expression and studies.
• Process and embed tissues for spatial transcriptomics and imaging applications.
• Isolate and prepare various primary cell populations for analyses.
• Extract DNA and RNA from tissues and blood for downstream assays.
• Prepare samples for spatial transcriptomics, ATAC-seq, and single-cell technologies.
• Perform multicolor flow cytometry staining, acquisition, and analysis.
• Prepare cell suspensions for FACS.
• Conduct molecular biology assays including RT-qPCR, in situ hybridization, immunofluorescence, Western blotting, and cloning.
• Assist with neurobehavioral testing in rhesus macaques (CANTAB, WGTA).
• Bank and archive samples in liquid nitrogen and ultra-low temperature freezers.
• Maintain laboratory databases and biorepositories; monitor equipment and sample integrity.
• Assist with shipping/receiving of biological materials per regulatory requirements.
• Prepare stock solutions and medications for Veterinary Medicine.
• Assist with IACUC documentation and imaging coordination (PET/CT, MRI).
